How can I prepare for knee replacement surgery?

I have to have a knee replacement after two arthroscopies have failed, and I don't know what to expect. How can I make sure all goes as well as it should? I know I ought to lose some weight but the bad knee means I can' t exercise too well. I do walk the dogs every day though. I'd like to hear of other people's experiences please. Thanks! How can I prepare for knee replacement surgery?MY mom just had both knees replaced at the same time. She was in her 80's at the time and was up and walking in no time. True there is pain but that's what pain meds are for. You will be put on an exercise machine in the hospital. your leg is strapped in and the machine bends the knee and straightens the leg. It's nice as you can sleep while you exercise. You will have a long scar down the middle of your knee about 10-12 inches. A positive attitude and hard work in physical therapy will make things better for you. Best of luck to you!How can I prepare for knee replacement surgery? Before you go off to surgery try this release for the kneecaps. If the tendon for the kneecap is tight it will pull your kneecap up on and into the knee making it hard and painful to bend your knees. To get past this you have to release the tendon so the kneecap drops back into place and the pains should be gone. Here's how to release them:

Kneecaps:

Do while sitting on a chair with no front cross braces.

While sitting have your leg resting in a stretched mode. Place both your thumbs, side by side, about 2 inches behind the kneecap and press down into your leg and then redirect the pressure a little towards the kneecap. After 30 seconds, slowly slide your foot back and under your chair as far as it will go, release the pressure but hold your foot there for another 30 seconds.

The important part of this is the pressure on the leg. Because that muscle is releasing as well it can take away from what you are doing. If this doesn't take for you give it another try right away for there is less releasing on the bottom muscle then. How can I prepare for knee replacement surgery? If you take FISH OIL stop- it thins the blood which is bad during surgery (bleeding). Otherwise, just stay healthy, eat right and exercise but don't make any dramatic changes the week before your surgery. Make yourself happy and relaxed too as your mental state will prepare you for recover. Read as much as you can so you can prepare yourself. There are many good books available. Go the B%26amp;N and skim through 5-10 popular books in the cafe for a few hours- take notes! The Dummies books are great- I'm sure they have some related books- like Preparing for Surgery for Dummies, etc.

Be realistic and prepare for a tough first several months but also get excited about how great you are going to feel after you recovery.
