Has anyone had a replacement disc in their neck, if so, how were the results for you after surgery?

My husband has to have a replacement on his c-5,6. He has alot of pain which he can deal with. But its accompanied with alot of dizziness and pressure in his head which disrupts everyday life. Has anyone else ever gone through and can you share your thoughtsHas anyone had a replacement disc in their neck, if so, how were the results for you after surgery?I've had 2 cervical spine fusion surgeries and don't recall having any pressure or headaches from it. The pains that I have are from nerve damage. Spine injuries all seem to be the same in some ways and far different in others. Some people have the surgery and get better in 6 months or so. People like me, the damage was too bad to get better so the reason for the operations was to keep me from getting worse. The surgeries are a pretty scary deal, my 1st one lasted 8 hours due to bone spurs and the nerve damage I had.

If your hubby does have it make sure he gets a Alpine brace instead of the one they send you home from the hospital in.

Here are a few links I use and should help your hubby.

I hope they help your husband as much as they have helped me.

The last 2 are links that you can ask your question to a Mayo Clinic specialist and a Web MD, free!

When dealing with your health I wouldn't trust just anyone with a computer and access to Yahoo answers, that is why I gave you links to good, free information from medical professionals. With your question you should get several good answers from people that have been through the cervical spine issues, but , like most things there will be a few goofballs that just want to get 2 points for some reason.

The other 2 answers I have seen here I give a big thumbs up to. They are the people I listen to myself.Has anyone had a replacement disc in their neck, if so, how were the results for you after surgery?I had a fusion at that site, but your husbands symptoms are not those of a cervical disc problem. Dizziness and pressure are NOT indicative of this malady. Something else may be at work.Has anyone had a replacement disc in their neck, if so, how were the results for you after surgery?Oct 2000, my Neurosurgeon did a cervical fusion on me...C3/4, C4/5,C5/6 taking bone from my hip %26amp; also securing with Titanium plates %26amp; screws...My surgery ran a few hours longer only because I had over 100 bone spurs removed before the surgeon could begin the cervical fusion. My injury was from the 70's, a drunk driver hit me going over 60mph %26amp; never stopped...I suffered many many years before doing this surgery! My life has definitely IMPROVED because of this surgery, However, my choices were not much, I was suffering from partial nerve danmage %26amp; paralysis from the bones pinching nerves %26amp; touching the spinal cord...I had a 50/50 chance of paralysis...I WAS SCARED...I sincerely hope you have searched %26amp; researched LONG %26amp; hard before simply choosing any surgery (like this) which includes the spine! It is RISKY! As is any surgery, but Neurosurgery is very very risky! I wish you the best...Take care~

** Oh, the recouperation period was somewhat lengthy, I had three various collars %26amp; one bone growth enhancer collar...several months of recouperation~ but compared to the years I suffered, I was thrilled to look forward with healing %26amp; enhancemnet of my 'quality of life' was finally in reach!
